Back in 2007 I was part of a group called myscrapworks.com, it is a scrapping group and site composed of Filipinas who were dedicated to document life through scrapbooking. On March of the same year, myscrapworks celebrated its first group/site anniversary with activities that included a tie-up with Haribon Foundation. Haribon Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources is a membership organization dedicated to the conservation of Philippine biodiversity. On that same month, Haribon had just concluded a photography contest on natural resources and wildlife. Fortunately, Hubby won third prize.
Together with myscrapworks, Haribon invited 20 scrappers to make a scrapbook layout of their top 20 photos. Each scrapper was given a 5×7 photo to scrap for 2 hours. The event was held at the Shangri-la Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City. I was among the 3 women member of myscrapworks who joined the other brave scrappers. Difficult as it seemed, I carried on with a nature themed layout.
By good luck, I was able to bagged the second place. First price winner was cover at Haribon’s second quarter magazine. All layouts were exhibited at the Cultural Center of the Philippines the following month.
How I’ve missed being part of myscrapworks, it was with that group that I grew as a scrapbooker. We all went our different paths but from time to time its wonderful to catch up. Now, I’m part of a bigger community of artist and I am cherishing every moment spent with them, physically and virtually.
I started with scrapbooking in 2003. I had a roller coaster ride when I started with this craft, all happy and never a dull moment.
This was one of my many first layouts. I can seem to imagine what I was doing then. Everyone’s got to start somewhere. I started with these….
Then with flashes of inspiration and with the help of the ladies at Scrapjazz. I made this.
Then these wonderful people came into my life, the team of myscrapworks.com The team had long been disbanded but I can never thank them enough for supporting and inspiring me to continue to hone my craft.
Another very significant person in my scrapbooking journey is Valerie Salmon. Val will always be close to my heart. She had always been so supportive of my work and has been a very good friend too. Here were some of my entries in her Got Sketch Blog.
Another lady who is and will always be a source of inspiration is the woman behind My Little Attic. Im always thankful for the many joys you gave my heart Nenette. Below was one of the layouts I entered in one of My Little Attic’s contest and luckily I got the first prize.
And these below were my last layouts until life kicked me in the butt and reminded me that it had to take the front wheel.
Life sure has its way of making the little things that makes us happy come back and reunite with us. Scrapbooking will always be my first love. I have discovered a lot of my artistic self and now that “life” is directing me to rediscover my love for scrapbooking….then the journey begins, again.
