What Are You Reading Now?

Sharing with you my recent reads.

Believe me when I say that I have never been a fan of any other love stories other than between a man and a woman. For as long as I can remember I have been a love story kind of reader. So when I  chanced upon this book by Khaled Hosseini, I was intrigued.

I was touched from the moment I read the first sentence up to the last chapter. I never thought that human beings could endure so much suffering and so much happiness at the same time. The human spirit is truly resilient.

Love in all aspects is also one thing I will never be able to fathom. As many would say, do not tire yourself understanding love, just feel it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested to know more about relationships, its ups and downs, luster and darkness, hopes and dreams and d how it helps one to accept and let go.

Another book from the same author just because.

This book is also up there at the top of my list. From the moment I read the first page, I could not put it down and spent the whole night reading it. I was so pumped up and so eager to research more about the women in Afghanistan.

This book, will make you cry and will touch the innermost parts of your heart. If you are a woman, you will  experience different emotions if you read it in one sitting. Since I’ve had a sheltered life, I am in awe at how strong the women characters are in this book. Each one had taught me something I could bring into my life. Each one had made me realize how fortunate I am. Each one had made me see and feel how, as a woman, I have a voice and that I should be heard, that I am equal to a man, that I have the right to love and be loved passionately and tenderly, that I am a partner and never a slave and that I am a human being.  Definitely a must read.

These books will surely ignite something inside all of its readers. It certainly struck something in me and that I am not the same person as before I read them. And I continue on with another Housseini book, And The Mountains Echoed.

New Books from Kinokuniya

I got to visit Kinokuniya, a Japanese bookstore at the Suria Mall in KL last Sunday and spending 3-hours inside was an understatement. I could spend a whole day inside that bookstore! I was again like a kid in a candy store but this time it was a bookstore not an art store 😉

After asking their staff where I could find books about mixed media and drawing/sketching, I was directed to go to the second floor. A few rows of Moleskine notebooks/journals greeted me on the right side, on my left, was a coffee shop where one could enjoy reading and having their fave coffee. Right beside the shelves with the Moleskine notebooks was a big shelf that houses their bestsellers from the Fine Art section. Further along I found books on drawing, pencil sketching, mixed media, watercolor and calligraphy. Then there were rows of books for advertising, photography, artist biographies, visual arts and fashion.

I comfortably sat down in front of the drawing, pencil sketching, mixed media, calligraphy shelves and took a lot of books (sample books that are open) and started to browse through them. Then I thought of asking my dear Hubby to look at the book’s reviews online. That way I would be able to eliminate books that can’t help me and that won’t fit in my “art budget”.

After a long time, I was able to pick two amazing books that has very good reviews and definitely within my budget. I also randomly picked a small coloring book I could take with me whenever I go visit the nearest Starbucks and have my favorite Caramel Frappuccino 🙂

I hope to learn a lot from these awesome books. I know I will take notes and be like a student once more.
