Documented Life Project – Week 17

April Theme: Color Safari (exploring inks and paints)

April 25 Art Challenge: Inks

Journal Prompt: Before the Ink is Dry

I have always been smitten with the dylusions ink sprays, so when the prompt for this week’s project came out, I did not bother planning my page but took out the ink sprays that I had and started playing with them.

My page started with a mixture of gesso and light yellow acrylic paint. I am not using the recommended dylusions journal but a regular novelty brought store journal, so adding a coat of gesso was necessary. When the paint and gesso dried, I took out my stencils and sprayed ink on them without much thinking. It was in this part of the process that I felt the happiest. When everything was dried, I traced over them my favorite chipboard alpha and homemade hearts. Colored the background with a water brush loaded with dylusions ink – after midnight. I did not think twice what would be the outcome if the darker ink (after midnight) would do to the other ink colors when mixed. When my background dried, I outlined my words with black signo pen, added marks with white signo. I added water marks using a cotton bud tapped with a paint brush to the background for design and element and immediately dried with a paper towel. Finally, I used my flower stencil and selected two flowers and stenciled over my page with white acrylic paint.

When I was playing with my stencils and spraying the inks like crazy, the phrase, I am beautiful came to mind as I scheduled a date with myself this coming Wednesday. I have not seen a beauty salon since the time I arrived in KL, 7 months ago. So, on Wednesday, I will brave one salon and see if I’d be able to find a great hair specialist. For the time being, my page is a reminder that I am beautiful even with wild unruly hair with a lot of white strands.
